Automobiles

Automobiles have been on the scene for over 100 years. Early vehicles were built on the principle of the horse and wagon and were called horseless carriages. Continuing developments in vehicle design since those early years have resulted in today's high tech vehicle. Today, there are over 130 million passenger cars in the United States alone. This is just 1/3 of the cars in the world. The automobile is the direct or indirect source of employment for one of every nine workers in the country. The automobile includes several systems. These systems include the body and suspension, the engine, the electrical system, the powertrain, emission controls, and accessory systems.
